@Jeanette: My experience with canker sore is that you must catch it early at the initial stage. Stay alert and whenever you detect one, apply one of the remedies from the list above that suits you. It will wither and disappear before it has the chance to enlarge, worsen and give you great discomfort. Also, avoid oral injuries of any kind because a wound in the mouth can easily develop into a canker sore. For the overall health, I believe some herbal drinks can help boost your immunity. You body knows best, if you can't take iron, there is chance that you're not deficient in iron. Your ability to take extra iron when you're pregnant (so you needed it) can prove this theory. Work out a diet that can keep you well. Food is the best medicine, have faith!

This article is very helpful for me because I am used to Canker sores. I even had two sores in my tongue last year and they lasted for 2 months. I usually buy canker sore drops to lessen the pain and sore. My kid now has 3 sores in the tongue (because he is sick right now). They say it is heridetary because my mother, too suffers from canker sore when stressed out. I guess I'm deficient in Vitamin B and Iron because I usually feel dizzy especially when I have my menstruation but the laboratory result does not perceive any irregularity. My body does not even accept Iron intake because I will vomit when I take Iron as Vitamins. The doctor told me to take it in the evening before I sleep but I haven't tried to do it because I'm afraid I'll vomit again. When I was pregnant, I was able to manage Iron intake, but before and after that, I wasn't able to do so. Maybe I'll try again to take Iron when I'm ready.
